
Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan are the few big names released by their respective IPL franchise for the 2011 IPL. Brandon McCullum, Chris Gayle, Mathew Hayden, Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symmonds, Kumara Sangakkara, Tilkaratne Dilshan and mahela Jayawardhane are the other big names in foreign category, released by teams before the Wednesday deadline.
2010 finalists Chennai Kings and Mumbai Indians retaind the maximum 4 players with only three of whom can be Indians, as per the IPL rules. Mumbai retaind captain Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Pollard and Maling while Chennai retained Dhoni, Raina, Vijay and Albie Morkel.
The price to retain will be valued at US$1.8 million for the first player, US$1.3 million for the second, US$900,000 for the third and US$500,000 for the fourth.
2009 IPL winner Deccan Chargers, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab have put all their players for auction while Royal Bangalore surprisingly retained in-form Virat Kohli. Delhi retained Virender Sehwag and 2008 IPL winner retained captain Shane Warne and all rounder Shane watson but surprisingly released hard hitter Yusuf Patahn
